Quyang is the hometown of carvings. The stone in the south of the city is pure, tough and smooth, and its taste is unique. Its colorful resources have created unique advantages for its artisans to display their skills. The stone carvings of Quyang not only lost the mysterious and obscure bold frame of the Wei Dynasty, but also inherited the natural and plump and solemn and beautiful shapes of the Tang and Song Dynasties. Bodhisattva Guanyin, Lishi Tiannv, and Dragon, Phoenix and Lion Beast are typical of their art. Contemporary Chinese arts and crafts master Lu Jinqiao has enriched the skill of stone sculpture modeling with teeth and wood carvings, created small pieces of fine products, expanded the vast world of stone sculpture creativity, and made Quyang stone sculpture an important representative of modern folk stone sculpture. It is understood that there are more than 2,300 large and small stone carving factories in Quyang County, and the products are exported to more than 100 countries and regions, with an annual output value of hundreds of millions of yuan.
Regarding the origin of stone carving art, there is a very popular legend in Quyang: during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Huang Shigong, who is the same as Gui Guzi, lived in Huangshan and passed the "Carving Heaven Book" to two Quyang disciples. From then on, Quyang people learned to sculpt.
Quyang stone carving has gone through two thousand years of development so far. Quyang carving artists have come out in great numbers, and the carving art has continuously created glory in China and the world. The works of "Queen Crane" and "Gan Zhimei" by Quyang carving artists in the late Qing Dynasty won a silver medal at the Barnabas Pacific Exposition Since then, there has been a saying that "the world is called Quyang stone carving". After the founding of New China, Quyang stone carving artists participated in the restoration of Tiananmen Square, the construction of the People ’s Heroes Monument, the Great Hall of the People, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall and other major projects. Quyang carvings are well-known at home and abroad.
On May 20, 2006, Quyang stone carvings were approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists. On June 5, 2007, as determined by the Ministry of Culture, Lu Jinqiao and Zhen Yancang of Quyang County, Hebei Province were the representative inheritors of the cultural heritage project, and were included in the first batch of 226 representatives of national intangible cultural heritage projects List of sex heirs.
